วิธีทำ

1

Basic

Set large square loom to base loom holder.

2

Make a large slip knot about 10 cm/4-in from end of yarn.

3

Insert yarn firmly in slit.

4

Wind yarn around pegs (see instruction leaflet) and cut yarn, leaving a 50 cm/20-in yarn end.

5

Thread yarn end through tapestry needle and secure centre discreetly. Scoop top layer first.

6

Release loom from base. Scoop bottom layer and take needle out from back. Untie slip knot.

7

Tie both ends and bring needle out to front.

8

First round: scoop needle under right hand thread of each loop.

9

Repeat step 8 around.

10

Second round: scoop needle under left hand thread of each loop around.

11

Knot thread at back of work, leaving about 1 cm/0.5-in end.

12

Cut another length of yarn in a contrasting colour to about 1.5 m/1.5 yard and thread through tapestry needle.

13

Take needle from back to front, leaving about 5cm/2-in yarn end at back of work.
Hold this end with your fingers as you work the next step.

14

Work on first set of 8 pegs. Scoop needle under right hand thread of each loop across 8 pegs, then turn and scoop needle under left hand thread of each loop across these 8 pegs. Repeat 4 times to complete 8 rows.

15

Start shaping petal by scooping one less thread on every row. Continue until there is 1 thread remaining.

16

Weave yarn down back of petal to centre of work. Bring needle to front of work to start next petal.

17

Back view of one completed petal.

18

Repeat steps 14-16 over next 8 pegs to work second petal, then add another strand of yarn and work two more petals.

19

Knot thread at back of work and cut thread, leaving 1 cm/0.5-in end. Cut another length of yarn in a contrasting colour to about 1 m/1 yard.

20

Scoop needle under left hand thread of any loop.

21

Wind new yarn clockwise around needle, holding yarn end in place with thumb.

22

Pull needle through gently (one knot made).

23

Scoop needle under right hand thread of same loop and repeat steps 21 and 22 to make second knot. Pull left to control spacing of two knots.

24

Pull right to tighten knot.

25

Repeat steps 20-24 to make a knot around each thread to end.

26

To finish, tie ends together, leaving about 1 cm/0.5-in end.

27

Release from loom and glue ends in place.

28

Pin motif to ironing board and gently steam iron.

29

Release motif from pins. Finish with spray starch if desired.

30

Variation1 (With large square loom)

Work as above to step 14.
Scoop one thread less on left side only to shape petal.

31

Variation2 (With large circular loom)

<Right>
Work as main square to step 14, then work step 14 across 6 pins back and forth 6 times (12 rows), without decreasing. Use contrasting yarn to tie two threads together twice around, tying alternate threads together on second round.

<Left>
Work as main square to step 14, then work step 14 across 4 pins back and forth 4 times (8 rows), without decreasing, then a further 4 times (8 rows) decreasing on both sides. Rep steps 20-24 to add two rounds of knots.
